So the news is right in writing that the iPads are flashy and fun, but they are tools as we redefine what students need to know and be able to do. If we are only asking students to learn information – and we are not asking students to use the information thoughtfully and creatively – we are maintaining industrial age schools. Our students need to thrive in the 21st Century.

This isn’t the most exciting blog post, but as I promised at the beginning, I am going to keep you updated on the school’s journey into the 21st Century. We all know that journeys aren’t glamorous and easy the entire time. While we may have felt stagnant for a bit, we are now back on the path and sprinting for the opening in the trees. The next few weeks will be exciting!

I love how we begin school each morning. After coming together as a community, and before the students depart for their classes, we always tell each other, “learn a lot. Have fun. Do a Mitzvah.” I was reflecting on this trifecta of commands the other day, and I must say, I think it embodies everything we are and everything we strive for at Beth Hillel Day School.
