Science & STEAM

The goal of the Beth Hillel Science program is for students to think like scientists. We have a national award winning STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) integration program, in which these content areas are woven together throughout the course of the school day.

In our new Science Lab, students explore the world around them and develop a deep knowledge of Physical, Earth, and Life Sciences. Working collaboratively, students learn to conduct hands-on experiments grounded in the scientific method. They formulate hypotheses, experiment, and draw conclusions based on evidence. Using the FOSS Science Program, out of the University of California at Berkeley, students engage in developmentally appropriate content and exciting investigations of scientific thought.

Topics of Study by Grade:

TK & Kindergarten – Properties of Natural Resources, Animals, Trees
1st & 2nd Grade – States of Matter, Balance & Motion, Insects, Properties of Air, and Weather
3rd & 4th Grade – Robotics, Engineering, Matter, Electricity, Motion, Environments & Habitats
5th & 6th Grade – Robotics, Engineering, Solar Energy, Chemistry, Astronomy, Landforms & Plate Tectonics

A high point of 5th grade is a three day excursion to Astrocamp, where students participate in science enrichment programming as well as in outdoor educational experiences.

All students in Transitional Kindergarten through sixth grade participate in our annual school science fair.

The STEM curriculum and arts programs are spectacular. My child genuinely feels like he is a real scientist, a mathematician, a musician, a creative author, and an inventor.
